New London Centres expand state-of-the-art Cancer Campus

HCA Healthcare UK invests £50m in new cancer centres opening in Southwark and Chelsea.

Launch of the UK’s first integrated robotics theatre will advance high-quality cancer treatment in the capital.

This week HCA Healthcare UK, part of the world’s largest private hospital group, unveils its £50m investment in cutting-edge cancer care, strengthening the services available across its cancer service network.

The investment sees the launch of two new state-of-the-art centres; the £38.2m London Bridge Hospital, Private Care at Guy’s and the newly built £12m HCA at Sydney Street, an outpatients and diagnostics centre in Chelsea.

Since 2008 HCA Healthcare UK has invested £100m in cancer services and its cancer network in London, Essex and Manchester. It already provides the best quality care and treatments for cancer patients from diagnosis to surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy and radiotherapy, research and clinical trials and survivorship programmes.

The 53-bed facility London Bridge Hospital, Private Care at Guy’s – which opens its doors today – occupies the top four floors of the new Cancer Centre at Guy’s Hospital. The new facility hosts the UK’s first integrated robotics theatre which includes the Da Vinci robotic system, enabling surgeons to perform complex keyhole surgery for urological procedures with faster recovery times for patients. The opening marks a further expansion of the London Bridge Hospital campus which last year opened a £30m outpatients and diagnostics centre at The Shard.

The facility at Sydney Street in Chelsea – opening on 2 May – will provide a range of outpatient cancer services, including outpatient cancer treatments provided by Leaders in Oncology Care (LOC). The facility will also house a blood laboratory and aseptic pharmacy manufacturing suite and a digital PET CT scanner, one of the first in a private setting in London, to help diagnose and stage cancer earlier. HCA at Sydney Street will be supported by HCA UK’s The Lister Hospital which will provide patients access to a nearby oncology inpatient ward and intensive care facilities.

This investment is in response to growing demand for cancer services in the capital. HCA Healthcare UK is already recording 150,000 patient visits per year and has seen year on year growth in demand.

The new centres are designed to deliver cancer care in a convenient and comfortable setting for patients. On 24 April all cancer services at London Bridge Hospital will be transferred to London Bridge Hospital, Private Care at Guy’s, a short walk from London Bridge Station and accessible to residents across the South East. Sydney Street is located in the heart of Chelsea, South West London.

Opening 24 April 2017: London Bridge Hospital, Private Care at Guy’s

London Bridge Hospital, Private Care at Guy’s opens on Monday 24 April. It is a £38.2m, 63,000ft state-of-the-art private hospital in the top four floors of the new Cancer Centre at Guy’s. It will be equipped with 40 inpatient beds, 9 day surgery beds, a four bed intensive care unit, four integrated operating theatres, Da Vinci robot, 18 chemotherapy bays, x-ray, fluoroscopy, ultrasound and radiotherapy. The centre will specialise in a number of areas including urology, gynaecology and breast surgery.

London Bridge Hospital, Private Care at Guy’s is part of a wider £70million investment over the last four years across the London Bridge Hospital Campus, which incorporates a world-class hospital at Tooley Street which was recently rated ‘outstanding’ by the CQC, and a £30m outpatients and diagnostics centre at The Shard which opened in January 2016 and further outpatient and diagnostic centres across the City, Canary Wharf and Kent. Opening 2 May 2017: HCA at Sydney Street Outpatients and Diagnostics Centre

On 2nd May 2017 HCA Healthcare UK will open a new outpatient centre at 102 Sydney Street in Chelsea. This £12m investment will cover 30,000 square feet over five floors and has been purpose built to offer rapid and convenient access to outpatient oncology and haematology services in South West London, with chemotherapy provided by Leaders in Oncology Care (LOC). It will house one of the first digital PET CT scanners in the capital.
